(01) Case study
The brief
Lumen runs forty stations across a growing regional network, and every one of them had its own signs, its own colours and its own logic. Passengers were learning the system station by station. The rail authority asked us for one language that could hold the whole network together, from the platform edge to the ticket app.
We started where people actually read: on a moving train, through rain on the glass, in the three seconds before the doors close.
A system built for speed
The identity is built on a single cobalt field and a tightly drawn set of pictograms. Station names sit large and left-aligned so they register at speed, while line colours were cut from nine to four. Every sign follows the same grid, so a passenger who learns one station has learned them all.
Outcome
The first twelve stations reopened in spring 2026. Wayfinding complaints fell by almost half in the first quarter, and the system is now rolling out across the rest of the network.
